Pickering
As a historic market town dating back to the 1200s, local produce has always taken centre stage in Pickering which boasts three butchers, two greengrocers and countless bakeries, all in addition to the bustling market which takes place every Monday. With three farm shops on the outskirts of town selling local seasonal produce, Pickering couldn’t be better placed to pick up those vital ingredients for easy gourmet eating! Chocolatiers and gelaterias can both be found on the Market Place situated amongst an abundance of pretty tearooms and modern coffee shops. Boasting its own brewery, five public houses and a wine bar, it is the perfect place to unwind after a day’s exploration.
Malton
Malton has a passion for independent shops & shopping. Antonio Carluccio first called Malton, ‘Yorkshire’s Food Capital’ encouraging the town to innovate and celebrate all things local. Many delicious products are made right in the centre of town – bread, beer, coffee, gin, gelato, macarons and much more. Malton has it’s very own Shambles, home to a vibrant and eclectic mix of independent shops. “The Cook’s Place” is one of the town’s stand out attractions. Run by Gilly Robinson, “The Cook’s Place” specialises in seafood & baking, with a host of fabulous courses enjoyed by cooks at all skill levels. Don’t miss the monthly food market on the second Saturday of each month.
The City of York
With more attractions per square mile than any other city in the UK, a holiday in Yorkshire is not complete without a visit to York. In the summer enjoy a picturesque train ride to Whitby and in December join Santa for his festive specials.

Eden Camp
Step Back in Time to World War II
A 10 minute drive from Galtres on the outskirts of Malton, Eden Camp is a modern history museum on the site of a former prisoner of war camp. Realistic tableux with moving figures, authentic sights, smells and sounds transport you back in time to World War II.
Whitby & The Abbey
Gothic splendour and Dracula!
The monastic ruins of Whitby Abbey dominate the East Cliff headland, offering fantastic views overlooking the historic seaside resort. With it’s quirky narrow streets and bustling harbour, Whitby is a seaside town like no other. It inspired Bram Stoker in 1890 to write the Dracula novels and no visit is complete without having fresh caught fish & chips!
North Yorkshire Heritage Coast

Dalby Forest

Just a few miles from Pickering, the forest has 8500 acres of breath-taking views, running, walking and cycling trails, activity centre and Go Ape course. Dalby Forest is home to an abundance of important wildlife species and is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site, where you can experience the magic of seeing the Milky Way with the naked eye.
Helmsley Castle
Medieval Castle With 900 Years of History
Initially constructed as a Medieval Castle, a Tudor mansion was later added in the 1600s. However, during Cromwell’s era, a display of power led to the explosive destruction of the great keep, splitting it in half. Just 20 minutes drive from Pickering, now you can explore the fun hands-on exhibition in the mansion house, bronze archers and take an audio tour.

Yorkshire Air Museum
Explore the history of this former Air Base
The UK’s largest independent aviation museum and among the top ten places to visit in York, sitting on the site of RAF Elvington, a World War II bomber base just outside the city. Just over 40 minutes from Galtres Retreat, the air museum is a wonderful interactive museum for all ages and includes a refurbished Halifax bomber!

Harrogate
Harrogate has 80 medicinal springs and you can “take the waters” at the Royal Pump Room Museum. Browse the shops or enjoy being pampered in the Victorian Turkish Baths before taking afternoon tea at Betty’s tea rooms.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park
The 500 acre park near Wakefield is worthy of a lingering visit. With exhibits by Henry Moore, Sean Henry and Dennis Oppenheim to delight you. Take a picnic and enjoy a day exploring.
Fountains Abbey
The abbey with a vast vaulted cellar, soaring columns and windowless arches is one of the largest medieval Cistercian monasteries in England. Alongside it are the water gardens of Studley Royal with dancing cascades, temples and summerhouse.
