15th – 23rd February ~ ner autocar, north yorkshire moors railway – pickering

Experience a piece of transport history as this ground-breaking petrol-electric autocar visits the NYMR. Designed in 1903 by Vincent Raven of the North Eastern Railway, these remarkable vehicles were the world’s first to use an internal combustion engine to generate electric power for passenger rail travel.

17th – 23rd February ~ Jorvik Viking Festival – York

The Vikings are back this February for the JORVIK Viking Festival! From Monday, the 17th of February to Sunday, the 23rd, York will be taken over by Viking warriors. This world renowned festival features living history encampments, workshops, tours, traditional crafts, feasts, family events, evening entertainment and dramatic combat performances.

22nd February ~ Murder Mystery evening – Howsham Hall, Malton

In our 1920s murder mystery Dr Grey is an unwelcome guest at Marble Mansion and his presence is unsettling to both the wealthy widow Nicola Navey and her niece Penelope Pink. With the help of close friends they plan to ensure that he no longer imposes on their hospitality and departs as soon as is politely possible. But has Dr Grey other malicious intentions for his prolonged stay and will long kept secrets be revealed?

Turn sleuth for the evening as events unfold around you- can you solve the fiendish murder? Enjoy a fabulous night of mystery with friends, with delicious 3 course dinner served over the course of the evening.

Begin your experience at Ryedale Vineyards, one of the most northerly commercial vineyards in the United Kingdom. This show by Dr Mark Baldwin is one of the Second World War’s most fascinating stories is that of the Allied Codebreakers, who deciphered a vast number of German secret messages and used the intelligence so gained to hasten Allied victory. The Germans had entrusted their secret communications to an ingenious ciphering machinethe Enigma, which was portable, easily operated, and could be set up in millions of ways. The codes were used and every one was changed every 24 hours.

Includes a live demo of one of the few remaining Enigma machines.

As seen on BBC The One Show! The Sounds of Simon is a tribute to the wonderful music of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, through the years as Simon and Garfunkel, to the successes of both their solo careers. Explore the friendship that led to songs such as Mrs Robinson, The Sounds of Silence and of course, Bridge Over Troubled Water. The full band will also take you through the pair’s solo careers, with songs such as You Can Call Me Al, Graceland, and Art’s smash hit, Bright Eyes. Paul and Art are played to perfection, bringing in elements of their famously fractious relationship, as well as replicating the beautiful harmonies flawlessly. With video clips, stories, and memories from the last 50+ years, this is a wonderful show filled with excellent music, nostalgia, and a genuine love for some great musicians. This is the UK’s longest running tribute to Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
